Hiawatha Compensation Policy

The Hiawatha Music Non-Profit Corporation recognizes five distinct classes of compensation groups. These groups are the Core, Performing Complimentary Pass, Complimentary Pass, Worker Coupon, and Miscellaneous groups. Definitions of these groups and Hiawatha's compensation policy for each are outlined below.

CORE GROUP

This group includes contracted and other core personnel involved in the Festival. Passes given to people in this classification are NOT TRANSFERRABLE and can be used only by those to whom they are issued. The Core group includes the following:
Main Stage Performers: Compensation: Contractual fee (market value of performer; negotiated to stay within Music budget); Performer's Food tent meals for performer, partner/guest, and children under 18; Festival passes for partner/guest and children under 18; one Parking Pass per band member (if needed), Performer's T-shirt.
Received for two-day performers: two Main Stage performances and two workshops per day for each band member.
One-day performers: one Main Stage performance and two workshops for each band member on day of concert performance.
Friday Dance and Teen Dance Performers:
Compensation: Contractual fee within Music or Teen budgets; Performer's Food tent meals for performer, partner/guest, and children under 18; Festival passes for partner/guest and children under 18; one Parking Pass per band member (if needed), Performer's T-shirt.
Received for Second Stage performance
Children's Area Paid Performers:
Compensation: Contractual fee within Children's budget; Performer's Food tent meals for performer, partner/guest, and children under 18; Festival passes for partner/guest and children under 18; one Parking Pass per band member (if needed), Performer's T-shirt.
Received for Children's Area performance by Main Stage performers and/or other performers. Use of Main stage performers is encouraged.
Sound and Light crews:
Compensation: Contractual fee (market value of performer; negotiated to stay within Music budget); Performer's Food tent meals for performer, partner/guest, and children under 18; Festival passes for partner/guest and children under 18; one Parking Pass per crew member (if needed), Performer's T-shirt.
Received for Services at all stage areas.

Monitors:

Compensation: Festival passes for Monitor, partner/guest and children under 18; Worker T-shirt, Monitor ID item, Performer's tent meals for Monitor, partner/guest and children under 18; one Parking Pass.
Received for a minimum of 15 hours of meetings and other Festival-related work.

Board members and others:

Compensation: Festival passes for the individual, partner or guest, and any children under 18, and food tent meals for all of the above, to board members and members of Festival-related committees, such as the music committee, who are not already monitors or coordinators.
Received for 15 hours or more of meetings or Festival-related work over the course of the year. This 15 hour commitment will need to be confirmed by the chair of the committee the person is serving on.

Area Co-ordinators:

Compensation: Festival passes for Area Coordinator, partner or guest and children under 18; Worker T-shirt, Monitor ID item, Performer's tent meals for Area Coordinator, partner or guest and children under 18; One Parking pass. Five Complimentary Festival Passes for personal use.
Received for countless hours of selfless service before, during, and after the Festival.

Food Concessions:

Compensation: Income from Food Concession sales minus percentage taken by Hiawatha as indicated in concession contract. In October 2003, the board voted to link the number of complimentary passes to the percentage paid to Hiawatha as follows:
10% non-profit: two comp passes, two parking passes, camping tag if needed.
12% from for-profit: two comp passes, two parking passes, camping tags if needed.
15% from for-profit: five comp passes, two parking passes, camping tags if needed.
Vendors will purchase any other weekend tickets at the advance price. Received for- Sales of food at the Festival.

Merchandise Vendors (other than Artists in the Round participants):

Compensation: one weekend pass, one parking pass. Vendor pays $150 for a large booth space and $100 for a small booth space.

Contracted Services:

Compensation: Contractual fee within Festival budget. Free Festival passes and Parking Passes as needed to fulfill service agreement.
Received for: Services rendered: shuttle service, City employees, sanitation crew, etc.

PERFORMING COMPLIMENTARY PASS GROUP

This classification includes all contracted non-paid Workshop performers, and Workshop performers/leaders in the Children's Area. Complimentary passes received are transferrable; performers receiving them can give them away if they 1) Fulfill their contracted service, and, 2) Have received or purchased another Festival pass or ticket from another authorized source.
The Performing Complimentary Pass Group includes the following persons:
Workshop Performers: Compensation: On April 5, 2001, the board approved workshop compensation for local performers to the following:
One workshop earns one performer t-shirt (as available) and a day pass for the day of the workshop.
Two workshops earn one performer t-shirt (as available) and a weekend pass.
On April 6, 2005, the board agreed to add one single-day Performer's Food Tent ticket for each day of workshops performed. This will be handled with a paper ticket for the appropriate day(s). Received for: one or two workshop performances. Use of Main stage performers is expected.

Children's Area Workshop Performers:
Compensation: One one-day pass for each scheduled workshop (maximum one weekend pass), one Performer's T-shirt (as available).
Received for Participating in Children's Area workshop(s).

Children's Area Workshop Leaders:
Compensation: One one-day comp pass for each scheduled Workshop (maximum one Weekend pass), one Worker's T-shirt, and one Parking Pass if needed. Received for Leading Children's Area workshop(s).

COMPLIMENTARY PASS GROUP

This group includes people receiving a limited number of passes in exchange for negotiated services that benefit the operation of the Festival.
Complimentary passes received are transferrable. People receiving them can give them away if they 1) Fulfill their negotiated service and, 2) Have received or purchased another Festival pass or ticket from another authorized source.
The Complimentary Group includes the following:
Donors:
Compensation: One or two Comp tickets.
Received for loan of equipment, advertising, performer housing, long-term support of Festival, etc. Any board member can also request complimentary passes to help recruit people who may be interested in working directly with the Co-op.
Determined by Coordinator, Festival Committee or Board of Directors.

COUPON GROUP

This group includes all Festival Workers who volunteer during the Festival in exchange for admission.

Festival Workers:
Compensation:
First shift: Worker T-shirt
Second shift: half advance ticket price reimbursement.
Third shift: half advance ticket price reimbursement.
Received for one, two or three shifts worked during the Festival or during Festival set-up or teardown; authorized by Monitors for reimbursement.

ARTISTS IN THE ROUND VENDORS

Compensation: One weekend pass per booth; one camping pass if needed; one parking pass if needed.
Received for vending at Artists in the Round

MISCELLANEOUS GROUP

This group includes wage-earning staff as authorized by the Board of Directors, and reimbursement for Festival or general Hiawatha supplies or services.
Director:
Compensation: salary as approved by board; Performer's Food Tent meals for employee, partner or guest, and children under 18; Festival passes for partner/guest and children under 18; one Parking Pass; worker T-shirt.
