31st Annual Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival

Festival Logo Contest

6 p.m., February 1, 2009, was the deadline to enter the 31st Annual Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival Logo Contest. Thanks to all who entered! We expect to announce the winner very soon.
The winning design will appear in some form on all promotional materials for the Festival. This includes posters, mugs, programs and the coveted worker T-shirts. Each year's logo winner receives $100, a T-shirt with the winning design, weekend passes for two and a Festival mug.

Thanks and congratulations to Melissa Miron, who designed the winning 2008 logo.

Logo guidelines:

We want an image that represents the Hiawatha experience and is colorful and graphically appealing.
You must use a visible, original image (no clip art, please). The image will be used on large and small posters and will be simplified for tees and mugs.
Image should relate to Hiawatha, music, dance, and/or the surroundings. Try to reflect a family-oriented, traditional-music event.
Image should include year, dates and location of the Festival: for the current contest - 31st Annual, July 17-19, 2009, Marquette Tourist Park.
Include colors. A maximum of four colors may be used in the design INCLUDING BLACK AND WHITE! You can use one color as a background. Solid colors only; no water color, gradients or airbrush, please. Those techniques look wonderful, but they are too costly to reproduce on shirts, posters, etc. Sorry.
Image must reproduce well in black and white and in small sizes for mugs, etc.
Lettering must be identifiable and easy to read.
No electronic submissions, please. You may create your entry electronically, but because of the whimsies of the internet and digital formats, we ask that you send your entry on paper. Thank you!
All entries, images and artwork become exclusive property of the Hiawatha Music Non Profit Corporation.
All entries are recorded and numbered by someone not involved in the selection. The Hiawatha Festival Committee and Music Co-op board of directors do not see the entrants' names until after the final selection is made.
Hiawatha reserves the right to reject any and all entries; to reconsider entries from previous years; and to request reasonable, minor design modifications from the proposed winner.
Please contact the Hiawatha office if you have questions. 906-226-8575, noon to 6 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays, info@hiawathamusic.org. We check messages throughout the week.
Please send your artwork to: PO Box 414, Marquette, MI 49855.

Please understand that some of the vintage logos may use techniques we can no longer accept. Please be sure your design follows the guidelines above. Thank you!
Many, many thanks to our friends at Marquette Monthly, who scanned all our Festival logos - even the ones they didn't use! - for a January 2008 article about area logo contests.

Thank you for your interest in this important part of our event!
